Equal Opportunity Despiser

I’m thinking I’ve said this before, but feel compelled to say it again.

I am an equal opportunity despiser.

I despised the Clintons.

I despise George W. Bush.

My ability to despise knows no political boundaries.

This confuses people. Because most people I know despise one or the other, and if they know I despise the Clintons, they assume I must be a right-winger who adores the policies of the Bush administration.

Couldn’t be more wrong.

And if people know I despise George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and their minions of evil, they assume I’m a left-winger who would vote for a yellow dog for president.

Couldn’t be more wrong.

In fact, I never voted for a Democrat for president before I voted for John Kerry.

I did vote for Nader, however, because there was no way in hell I’d vote for Clinton or for Gore (Clinton administration and thus part of the beginning of NAFTA and our relations with China that have led to our current economic straits, and believe me, Hillary will be more of the same) or W. (unqualified tool of the neocons who shamelessly used the religious right’s support for his stance on “moral” issues to cloak the real goals of this presidency which include but certainly aren’t limited to the stripping of civil liberties, and I still haven’t figured out if Bush is truly evil or just a dupe of a sock poppet).

Let’s see, I’ve refused to vote for Clinton, Dole, Bush and Gore.

If that doesn’t mark me an independent, I’m not sure what does.

So get off my back, all those who think I’m some sort of left wing liberal pinko simply because I now have a new attitude about this particular election and that is –

Any Democrat in a storm.

You won’t find me voting third party this time, even if I have to hold my nose and vote for Hillary Clinton.

After the past eight years and their impact on this nation–stripped civil liberties, lying to the world in an unsuccessful effort to gain support for our unwarranted warfare in Iraq, an escalation of the export of jobs from this country in an effort to increase corporate profits at the cost of the workers, and that’s just for starters–and the fact that few Republicans bothered to speak up against any of these things?

I will hold my nose and vote for Hillary Clinton, yes, even Hillary Clinton whom I totally despise, in an attempt to escape the tailspin eight years of Bush policies (supported by his Republican cronies, even those who didn’t agree with him) have wrought upon the face of the earth and more specifically, the land that I love.

Hopefully, I won’t have to vote for Hillary.

Hopefully, I’ll be voting for Obama in November.

So, this is just the warning. You’ll be seeing Obama support in this blog from this point forward. Not because I’m a Democrat, but because I’m a patriot who loves my country.

My mother told me (yes, my sainted mother) with suspicion in her voice, “Nobody knows anything about that man.” Well, there’s an easy fix for that.

Read his book.

Then go check out this website.

I told my mother that. With an eyeroll. Yes, I’m that kind of daughter.

So I’ll tell you what I told my mother.

Listen to the man.

Read his books.

Decide for yourself.

But make sure you’re listening to him, and not just what his critics say about him.

I’ve paid my dues. I’ve listened to the Clintons and the Gores and Bushes and the Doles and decided they weren’t worth my vote. Now I’m finally listening to someone who inspires me and who believes in the things I believe in.

Give Obama a chance.

And get out there and vote in the Democratic primary and keep Hillary off the ticket.

Thank you.

Welcome, Sistah! I’m an Independent, too (as you know), but the Republican party, thanks to Uncle Ronnie’s pandering, has been taken over by fascists, so I will cast no vote that will give them a chance to take the White House or Congress unless and until that changes.

May I add a suggestion to your post? I gave you and the RSC The Audacity of Hope to read, sign, and pass on as part of The Obama Book Project, so when you recommend that people read his book, please refer them to that site.
    Thanks!!

P.S. Pray to all gods and goddesses everywhere that Nader doesn’t run again.

At least you know why you despise the Clintons. Most people I talk to who hate them can’t remember why they don’t like them.

    Welcome, shush!

Candy, I’ll go back and make that change.

Kitty, I’ve got a long list of things, and yes, Lewinsky is part of it. But only a small part. If that was all I had against them, I wouldn’t still be bitter.

Aw, I don’t mind so much. Wasn’t using those civil liberties anyway.

I am almost at the point of writing in your name. Surely you have some good ideas?

Now, now– you know I don’t claim to have any wisdom or knowledge of running things, just lots of opinions on how they should be run!
